SEX SHOOTER by Hester Scheurwater

"Sex Shooter" is Hester Scheurwater’s latest work, exploring gender freedom, identity, desire, and representation. The exhibition reframes the male gaze, empowering individuals to express their sexuality and identity on their own terms. Through public interventions and raw, performative portraits, Scheurwater challenges societal norms and censorship, advocating for women’s visibility.
“SEX SHOOTER is commissioned and produced by Noorderlicht in collaboration with Brave New World Producties. It is part of the pan-European project ULYSSES European Odyssey, celebrating the centennial of James Joyce’s literary masterpiece.”
Artists from 18 cities in 16 European cities each took one of the 18 chapters from James Joyce’s book Ulysses as their starting point. Scheurwater focused on ‘Nausicaa,’ chapter XIII in this classic novel, which focuses on the theme of sexuality. It is one of the most controversial chapters of the book.
