Sexshooter, The Liberation of Sexual Identity

I am honoured to be commissioned by Noorderlicht to visualize chapter 13, Nausicaa, of the book Ulysses written by James Joyce. In this controversial 13th chapter Nausicaa, the main character masturbates to the sight of a young woman who, in the distance, lifts her skirt showing her legs and underwear. The stereotypically scene of a romantic woman passively showing her body, and the sexualized man actively looking—were the perfect material to “shoot back”. In Sexshooter I like to reverse the scene by reinventing the female gaze as a symbol of sexual liberation and freedom of gender expression for all individuals.
It has been a pleasure to work with so many models who seizes their right to play, and perform a magical, dance around their beauty, sexiness and naked body and with great sovereignty allowing me to capture their sexual identity.
The exhibition is commissioned by Noorderlicht in Leeuwarden as part of Ulysses: European Odyssey 2022-2024. The EU-funded project consists of 18 interventions in 18 different European cities, each proposition inspired by a chapter from James Joyce’s eponymous modernist classic. Leeuwarden sets the stage for Ulysses's ACT II, chapter 13, Nausicaa, which delves into the captivating theme of "Gender Freedom in contemporary Europe.
